A Glimpse into Nate’s Dryer Vent Cleaning

Team Nate’s Dryer Vent Cleaning is perpetually aiming for excellence & always striving to do & be better! We recently celebrated our 5-year Anniversary in April of this year of 2024 & have become the most well-reviewed, Full-Service Dryer Vent Company in Brevard County! We just recently broke 700 5-Star Reviews on Google, 165+ reviews on Facebook. On Nextdoor we have 280+ All-time “Faves” & 132+ Recommendations and for 3 consecutive years (and likely a fourth) have been named Nextdoor’s “Neighborhood Favorite”!

We’re super flattered by the continuing positive feedback. We’re also very grateful for the recognition we get as a result of the tremendous amount of individual effort that goes into our daily operations to make it a collective team effort. From the first point of contact to walking out of your home, making it cleaner & safer than it was when we first arrived, we eagerly await the opportunities given to us to make homes safer from the 6th leading cause of house fires (which is dryer fires) while also brining back good ‘ole fashion customer service here to Brevard County, Florida! For more of a glimpse into our services check out this video.

Did you know that Nate’s Dryer Vent Cleaning was the Space Coast’s first company with Certified Dryer Exhaust Technicians (CDET)? This may lead you to ask, What is a CDET?!

For starters, “The CSIA® CDET® credential is the only nationally-recognized credential of its kind. Hiring a CSIA® Certified Exhaust Technician® means you are trusting your home and family to someone who has spent countless hours studying for (and passing) an extensive exam covering everything from the proper inspection and maintenance of dryer vents to the applicable codes and standards relating to these systems.” For more information on the certification &/or if you’re desire is to hire a CDET and you’re not in our area you can utilize the search system to find one here.

Did you know that the Chimney Safety Institute of America invited me (Nate) to become a “Junior Instructor”? Equally exciting & humbling, I was also asked to write & contribute a whopping two chapters to the latest Certified Dryer Exhaust Technician Manual which is currently the standard for our industry and the only comprehensive training manual for our industry!

Did you know that at the time Nate’s Dryer Vent Cleaning was launched (Spring of 2019), we were the only company in Brevard that was completely following dryer manufacturers recommendations and completing both halves of the service? Both halves you say? Yes! Dryer manufacturers think of this service as two halves.

Half #1 is the obvious, the vent cleaning. Cleaning the vent (and vent’s cover) has everything to do the efficiency of the machine, allowing the dryer to run optimally. It actually has little to do with the safety of the machine, although cleaning the vent does play a role in that endeavor and will further explain momentarily.

Half #2 is the dryer clean out. This is not simply the lint trap, but most importantly, cleaning the “interior cabinet” of the dryer. Specifically cleaning around the motor, wires, heating element and other parts of the machine. The reason why they recommend this is probably obvious now, because cleaning the dryer is the most effective and immediate way to reduce the risk of a dryer fire – which is the 6th leading cause of house fires according to the NFPA’s last report.

The reason why cleaning the vent only in part helps with the safety is because, when the dryer exhaust vent has a moderate or heavy buildup of lint, it creates a back-pressure of air. A partially or fully clogged vent cover can amplify & compound that effect. Other things can cause back pressure such as the design of a vent’s cover, turns in a dryer vent and even the classic foil hose.

What does back-pressure do? Well in short, it means a percentage of the dryer exhaust whether a large percentage due to a clog or smaller percentage of the hot humid air is returning to the dryer and not properly exhausting outside. What’s the consequence? A loss of efficiency in the dryer. If hot, humid air is returning to the dryer that means your dryer is now trying to dryer clothes with more humid air than normal, rather than that humid air properly evacuating from the dryer drum (by way of the lint trap). This is why your dryer times increase. This is like you taking a hot steamy shower and you don’t turn a fan on and you don’t open the door. You get out, there’s steam everywhere and condensation on the glass, mirrors, etc. You’ll have a harder time getting dry yourself until you leave that steamed up, humid room.

Now, if hot & humid air is returning to the dryer, so is LINT, which you don’t want to happen. When there’s a blockage especially, shockingly enough, lint will build up in the dryer cabinet itself at a more rapid rate that normal. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist or fire firefighter to discern that the more lint in your dryer the higher the risk for a fire. Here’s a fantastic video thoroughly explaining back-pressure as it pertains to dryer vent exhausts.

Sadly, most companies not just locally or nationally will ONLY come out and clean the vent. They will not offer both halves of the service (to include the dryer clean out). What does this mean? It means, despite your vent being clean as a whistle, the dryer could be quite dirty with lint. One more thing, we’ve found dryers as young as 6 months old that had a moderate amount of lint already accumulated in the machine because of a “vent problem” (meaning super dirty &/ or clogged). That’s why we time and time again communicate to our customer and posts on social media that clogs create a variety of hazards and the worst of which is a dryer fire. Here’s a 2-minute video explanation of the variety of consequences of a clog in a dryer vent.

Did you know that we are full-service company, meaning, not only do we fully comply with dryer manufacturers recommendations and perform cleanings, but also specialize in repairs & full or partial dryer exhaust vent installs? See some example pictures below of our work. Not only do our repairs come with a life-time workmanship warranty but also our installs. We are completely confident in our work!

We seem to never run out of first-time situations in this industry. Most jobs are pretty normal and ordinary, but occasionally we run into something that just makes you scratch your head and think to yourself, “What in the world!” See some example pictures below.

When in need of a dryer vent service, we highly recommend seeking out a company that exclusively specializes in that realm like us, rather than a company that specializes in other things like floor cleaning or house cleaning and also offers dryer vent cleaning. It’s doubtful they will offer both halves of the service and it’s also doubtful that recommendations (based off dryer manufacturers recommendations) &/ or solutions will be provided if dryer vent cleaning is not the focus of said company.

If people call us from outside of coverage area, we got out of our way and go the extra mile by doing our best to provide quality recommendations for people in other areas. I have a great network! I’m driven to always want to help and I’m happy to consult when people call even when outside our area.

Did you know that we have additional services we can provide? Check them out here!

Did you know we offer something called “Forward Scheduling”? There is no contract or commitment involved & those who take advantage get $15 off their forthcoming appointment!
Most people need (or want) to be on a 12, 18 or 24 months schedule. We pre-book follow-up appointments up to 24 months in advance. The way it works is, after your appointment if you decide the same day or within the month of your appointment that you’d like to go ahead and get on the schedule for up to 24 months in advance, we will set a date but not necessarily a time. We’ll set a reminder on our end to follow-up with you 3-4 weeks in advance of that date to see if that date still works for both you and us. If it does then we’ll go ahead and determine the time. If it doesn’t, we’ll adjust the day, figure out a time and you’re still offered the discount! Many people like this program of our if you will, because your next service won’t be forgotten about and fall to the wayside & of course the nominal $15 off, who doesn’t like saving some hard-earned money!

In closing, just remember a few important things:

– Normal dryer times are 20-45 minutes. When it starts consistently taking more than 45 minutes on all loads across the board no matter how small the load is – that’s likely an indicator you need the service done.

– If you smell burning, stop using your dryer and call us. Don’t be in the habit of turning your dryer on and going to sleep or leaving the property.

– Remember, not all dryer vent companies are like us. Meaning, most companies out there that offer dryer vent cleaning, do NOT offer the complete service that dryer manufacturers recommend (both halves as aforementioned in this blog). Most companies will only come, happily clean your vent, but neglect your dryer and not clean your dryer which is where the danger resides for a potential dryer fire.

– If you’re a current or forthcoming customer of ours, consider Forward Scheduling your next appointment and by doing so you’ll get $15 off!

– We offer some great additional services, such as AC Drainage Line Cleaning, Bathroom Fan cleaning and more. Check them out here.
